Proper nutrition is vital at every stage of human life, especially during childhood and development. To identify and describe swallowing disorders in children, there is an urgent need for standardized clinical assessment scales. Unfortunately, most available tools lack sufficient validity. Physicians often refer parents who report feeding and swallowing issues to barium swallow imaging as a first step, exposing children to its risks without a comprehensive functional evaluation. Today, most speech and language pathologists recognize the importance of standardized scales in assessing and treating swallowing disorders. This book introduces the Persian version of the Schedule for Oral-Motor Assessment (SOMA-P), developed to fill this gap and support clinicians in identifying mild to severe swallowing difficulties in children.
