I am the mother of a young adult who is a slow learner, and in this book I share the experiences of living with my son Pouya throughout his childhood and adolescence. Slow-learning children are honest, affectionate, and trusting, and these qualities make them unique in how they perceive and interact with the world. The efforts my husband and I have made—shaped by both our son’s strengths and his challenges—have always been directed toward helping him grow, progress, and eventually achieve a life with as much independence as possible. By sharing our journey, we hope that other families who have a slow-learning child will also share their own experiences and support one another.
